A Turizm Yayinlari, Istanbul

Immediately below the central panel are the images of two women in Byzantine aristocratic dress, flanking what appears to be a column. Each figure has a name inscribed in Greek: “Theodosia” and “Georgia.” These figures may be portraits of individuals associated with the mosaic’s creation, such as patrons or donors, or they may represent other Greco-Roman figures. On either side of this panel, two blank panels framed large, unexplained stones, which have since been removed.
