Yigal Shiloh, Qedem 17: Excavations At The City of David, Vol. 1, (1984).

THREE OF A KIND. Digging only yards away from Weill’s tower, archaeologist Yigal Shiloh discovered two other columbaria—this circular one and another rectangular—in his 1978–1982 City of David excavations. Both of these structures still contained the telltale rows of niches for the pigeons on the inside walls and confirmed the identification of Weill’s tower. The map below, opposite, shows Weill’s and Shiloh’s excavation areas: Weill’s tower overlaps Shiloh’s Areas B and D1; the outline of Shiloh’s circular columbarium can be seen in Area D2; and the rectangular columbarium is located in Area E3.
