Although this bulla had broken in much the same way as the Lachish bulla, it was possible to make out a portion of the letter before “ha-melekh”: It was a dalet. Since Hebrew reads from right to left, this meant that the word before “king” ended with a “d” and must therefore be eved/“servant” and not ben/“son.” The seal that created these two bullae therefore belonged to Shebnayahu, servant of the king.
