THROUGH THICK AND THIN. The second-century C.E. onomasticon of Julius Pollux lists all of the known Greek theatrical character types. Based on the features of the Dor “Adonis,” the mask fits the description of the “delicate” and “wavy-haired” types, both described as soft young men who spend too much time indoors at parties. Although anoother mask has thick eyebrows and faces slightly to the left, this small fragment shows the thin eyebrow of another figure facing the other direction. This suggests that there were originally at least two masks and that the other probably represented a different theatrical type.
