Sticks and bricks pictured in this 15th-century B.C.E. Egyptian wall painting from the tomb of nobleman Rekhmere show slaves in various stages of brick-making. At bottom right the overseer threatens the workers with a rod. For Israel Finkelstein, evidence of brick-making by slaves in Egypt does not suggest a basis for a belief in the Exodus.
