Applied round eyes and a captivating smile peer out from this bull’s-head mask found in a tomb at Achziv. Many of the animal figurines at Achziv are characterized by this unique sculpting style. Two tombs contained bulls’-head votives, like this one, which the excavators believe imitated real masks worn to represent the god Baal at Phoenician temple ceremonies.
