A MODERN MASTERPIECE. This highly stylized Philistine female figurine known to scholars as the Ashdoda was discovered by Trude Dothan’s late husband, Moshe, at Ashdod on the southern coast of Israel. The seated form and abstracted features—all strikingly modern in concept and design—have since been identified as basic elements of Philistine figurative art.
