POST NOTE. “Write [these words that God commands] on the doorposts of your house,” instructs Deuteronomy 6:9. To this day observant Jews post this passage (mezuzah, from the Hebrew for “doorpost”) on the entrance doorpost of their house. An occupant of one of the residential caves at Qumran also posted a mezuzah at the entrance to his quarters. Several mezuzah texts were recovered from among the Qumran documents, but all were fragmentary, like this one from Cave 4.
