WORTHY OF A HIGH PRIEST. In 1990, archaeologists excavated a family burial cave in Jerusalem. Two of the 12 ossuaries discovered there had been inscribed with the name Caiaphas, including this elaborately decorated one, which may have belonged to the high priest who turned Jesus over to the Romans for crucifixion, according to the Gospels.
