“Going down from Jerusalem to Jericho,” halfway along an ancient 16-mile road between the two cities, lies the site known in the Bible as Ma‘ale Adummim (“the Ascent [or Height] of Blood”). The area seems to have been plagued with robbers going back to the time of Joshua, so it’s no wonder that the parable of the Good Samaritan was located here.
