Copycat Coffins. Excavations at a different Egyptian stronghold south of Gaza, Deir el-Balah, revealed burials in anthropoid coffins made of pottery—another sign of Egypt’s influence. Dozens of these anthropoid coffins—mostly in pieces—were excavated at Beth Shean as well.
