Some scholars suggested that these coffins belonged to Philistines because of the resemblance to the feather headdresses on the Philistine and other Sea Peoples depicted on the temple of Pharaoh Ramesses III at Medinet Habu in Egypt. The excavations at Beth Shean, however, have not revealed any of the telltale signs of Philistine habitation during this period, so the identification is unlikely.
