Amihai Mazar/Tel Beth Shean Expedition, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
Signs of the Assyrian Assault. Beth Shean thrived for many years as a city in the kingdom of Israel, but in 732 B.C.E. a devastating end came at the hands of the Assyrians, who conquered all of northern Israel. The charred remains of the fiery destruction can be seen in this Israelite building. This time it would be several hundred years before people would occupy Beth Shean again.
