Konstantinos Politis

Death from the Air. This aerial view of Khirbet Qazone, 15 miles north of Zoar, shows only a smattering of more than 5,000 burials from the first century B.C. to the fourth century A.D. Although Politis was able to excavate and document 22 of these graves, most of which are simple shaft tombs, many times that number have been looted, resulting in a barren, lunar-like landscape pockmarked by the pits and spoil heaps of hundreds of illicit excavations.
