Symbols of Christ. Roughly inscribed on this tombstone is a circumscribed Chi-Rho monogram, an early Christian symbol that combined the first two Greek letters of Christ’s name, Chi (Χ) and Rho (Ρ). In this variant of the monogram, the bars of a cross are superimposed with the Greek letters. The lower corners of the cross are occupied by the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, Alpha (Α) and Omega (Ω), which, according to Revelation 22:13, symbolize Christ as “the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
