THE RELIGION OF THE SODOMITES? Located less than a mile southeast of Tall el-Hammam are fields littered with dozens of large standing stones, stone circles and dolmens (such as the dolmen next to which author Steven Collins stands). Intriguingly, some of these megalithic monuments are aligned with the entrance to the city’s main gate, the central axis of which leads directly to the large temple complex at the center of the city. With further research, Collins hopes to understand the role these features played in the religious practices and beliefs of the city’s inhabitants.
