Puppet-ruler of Jerusalem Abdi-Heba, the author of this 14th-century B.C.E. El-Amarna letter urges his Egyptian overlord to send troops to help defend Jerusalem against rebels. Inscribed in cuneiform, his plea has a Biblical ring: “As the king has placed his name in Jerusalem forever, he cannot abandon it.”
