HIGH PRIEST OF PHARAOH. Beneath the collapsed rubble of a mudbrick wall that fell during the destruction of the last Canaanite city, Hazor’s excavators uncovered this small fragment of a likely offering table. The few preserved Egyptian hieroglyphs suggest that the table was dedicated by Rahotep, high priest of Pharaoh Ramesses II, as late as 1250 B.C.E. Hazor must have still been thriving at that time, so the city could not have been destroyed before the mid-13th century B.C.E.
