HOLY WATER. Eulogia, literally “blessing,” were implements thought to protect one from danger. In Jerusalem, one form of eulogia were ampullae, glass bottles manufactured for Jerusalem pilgrims. They probably contained holy water—or perhaps oil. Many ampullae were decorated with religious symbols. This one features a Christian cross.
