CAPITAL CITY. For 11 years, Akhenaten ruled from Egypt’s new capital at Akhetaten (“the Horizon of the Aten”), modern-day El-Amarna. A figure walks among the ruins of the Small Aten Temple, one of the two major temples at Akhetaten. Akhenaten appears to have reserved the Small Aten Temple primarily for his personal worship of Aten.
