The major excavator, Rudolph Cohen directed the 1976–1982 excavation of Kadesh-Barnea for the Israel Antiquities Authority. Shortly after the completion of his excavation, Tell el-Qudeirat and the surrounding region returned to Egypt, and no further digging has taken place since. Cohen himself passed away before a site report was published.
