Jesus performs his first miracle in the Gospel of John at a wedding in Cana of Galilee when the wedding party runs out of wine. As seen in this mid-12th-century painting from the ceiling of the Church of St. Martin Zillis in Grisons, Switzerland, Jesus has servants fill six stone jars with water. When the chief steward of the wedding is offered a cup from these jars, he discovers that he is tasting wine.
