IDENTIFYING IDENTITY. Several archaeological discoveries attest to the Jewish identity of Khirbet Cana from the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Among the evidence is a late first- or early second-century C.E. building with two rows of columns, benches along the sides and plastered floors and walls—features that suggest the building was a synagogue.
