The model of the heroon shows that eight caryatids stood on the front and back porches of the structure, providing necessary support. The thinnest—and therefore weakest—part of the caryatid would have been her neck, but the sculptor eliminated this structural issue by giving the caryatid an elaborate hairstyle, thereby increasing the width and strength of her neck.
