TREASURE IN HEAVEN. In a house in the Egyptian city of Kellis, a large collection of Manichaean texts was recently excavated (above). Among them was a letter written by the local Elect about a Hearer named Lady Eirene, who had managed to establish treasure in heaven by her donation of earthly goods to meet the needs of the Elect who shunned work. Thus she transformed “treasure on earth” into “treasure in heaven.”
