HITTITES IN CANAAN. This was the first Hittite seal impression found in the Biblical land of Canaan. It was discovered at Aphek in 1976 near the Late Bronze Age palace. The large symbols in the center of the impression—a triangular crown (left) and base of a hand with the fingers (right) extending into the broken part—refers to “king and child,” which suggests it belonged to either a prince or princess. Bullae of seals such as this from the land of Canaan suggest interaction between the Hittites and the Canaanites, as also suggested in the Bible with the early Israelites.
