Two towers (the southern on the left and northern on the right) sit at the top of the Stepped Stone Structure (SSS). Above the SSS lies the Large Stone Structure (LSS), believed by excavator Eilat Mazar to be the remains of King David’s palace. Further exploration of the remains was suspended to excavate the deteriorating Northern Tower (marked above), which was in imminent danger of collapse.
