CRUMBLING TOWER. The Northern Tower, which is the smaller of the two towers that flank the top of the Stepped Stone Structure, delayed further excavation of the Large Stone Structure because, in its dilapidated condition, it was in danger of “imminent collapse.” Thus, in 2007 Mazar and her excavation team temporarily shifted their focus to the endangered tower.
