LIFTING THE STONES. A 21st-century industrial method was devised to move and locate the hundreds of stone blocks to their original position: a bridge crane. Steel tracks were laid parallel to the length of the site on which ran movable, vertical steel legs that support an overhead bridge. A lift hangs from the bridge. Since the lift and the bridge structure are movable, the archaeologists can position them to move any stone to any location on the site.
