KING DAVID’S PALACE IN JERUSALEM? The Stepped Stone Structure (SSS) in the center of the image was built to support a large building on top of the ridge. A complex system of walls integrated into the upper courses of the SSS has, indeed, been uncovered. The excavator, Eilat Mazar, calls these remains the Large Stone Structure (LSS) and identifies them as a palace founded by King David. Some other archaeologists disagree. (The photo shows the SSS and other structures before
Eilat Mazar’s excavations of the LSS.)
