EILAT MAZAR is a research fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, specializing in the archaeology of Jerusalem and the Phoenicians. The ostracon she is holding in this picture comes from her excavations in the City of David just south of the Old City walls. Several different readings and dates ranging between the 11th and the ninth century B.C.E. have been suggested for this inscription.
