ON THE COVER: SIDON’S SEA CASTLE. During the winter of 1227–1228, the Crusaders built a castle on a large rock just off the shore of Sidon and connected it to the mainland with a long bridge. This fortress protected Sidon’s harbor and has been renovated multiple times over the centuries. This photo was taken on October 9, 2010.
