PEERING OUT OF THE PALACE. A parallel for the window balustrade, a railing supported by molded shafts, in the “Woman at the Window” comes from the Judahite palace at Ramat Rahel, about 3 miles south of Jerusalem. There fragments of a seventh-century B.C.E. limestone balustrade decorated with volutes and petals have been uncovered.
