FIREPROOF GOODS. When Vespasian burned Hebron in 69 C.E., he inadvertently preserved much of the site, including metal items and pottery vessels from the kitchen of the “Western House.” Archaeologists uncovered a group of large iron nails, which probably came from the room’s wooden ceiling, and a curved iron key (see lower right of image).
