MAZAR’S MEDALLION. This gold medallion was excavated by Eilat Mazar in 2013 during her dig in the City of David. The menorah is flanked by a shofar (left) and a Torah scroll, according to Mazar, but David Mevorach of the Israel Museum argues the latter is a bundle of myrtle, willow and palm branches for the festival of Sukkot, which would be a more common pairing.
