DOORWAYS AT BEER-SHEVA. Despite the complex urban plan of Iron Age Beer-Sheva, only one out of 29 doorways clearly identified in the excavations faced west (or northwest or southwest), whereas more than 50 percent faced the east (or northeast or southeast). Circumstantial evidence would have increased this tendency even further, if we were to include the structures whose entrances have not been clearly identified.
