SNAKE PATH. Established in the first century B.C.E., the snake path on Masada’s eastern slope winds its way to the summit, increasing more than a thousand feet in altitude. Two of the Roman siege camps can be seen in the background. New modeling of the snake path, other trails, and the Roman siege system has produced information about their construction and chronology.
