THIS LATE HASMONEAN POTTERY ASSEMBLAGE was recovered from a ritual bath (mikveh) in the Pools Complex, where it had been deliberately dumped. Despite their royal status, the Hasmoneans seem to have used only coarse, locally made pottery. Excavations in their Jericho palaces found no imported or luxury wares. Unique among the present group is a rhyton (red cylindrical vessel in the back), a drinking horn that hints at the possibility that the assemblage had been removed from the Fortified Pal-ace.
