RISING ALONE. The central panel on the Sarcophagus of Domatilla depicts the cross, two doves, two stunned soldiers, and a banner with the Chi-Rho symbol inside a laurel wreath. Unlike other damaged examples of the Sarcophagi of the Resurrection, the central scene on this sarcophagus is complete. It attempts to directly depict Jesus’s resurrection. Represented by the Chi-Rho symbol, Jesus is seen rising alone—in line with the Individual Resurrection Tradition. This piece is on display at the Vatican’s Pio Cristiano Museum.
