STEPS TO PURITY. Like the Pharisees, the Jewish sect at Qumran practiced strict purity regulations at the turn of the Common Era. This is one of ten possible mikva’ot excavated at the site of Qumran. The low partition likely served to keep the pure and impure people apart as they entered and exited the pool.
