MONUMENTAL STAIRWAY. Among the hundreds of dedicatory inscriptions uncovered from the temple complex on Mt. Gerizim, only one was found in its original context, but only in secondary use. Written in Aramaic, the fragmentary inscription (no. 223) comes from the monumental staircase, seen here, outside the temple’s east wall.
