MONUMENTAL STAIRWAY. Among the hundreds of dedicatory inscriptions uncovered from the temple complex on Mt. Gerizim, only one was found in its original context, but only in secondary use. Written in Aramaic, the fragmentary inscription (no. 223, pictured here) comes from the monumental staircase outside the temple’s east wall.
