GOOD AS GOLD. Some of the prize finds from Tel Shimron’s 2019 season include electrum foil from the 11th century B.C.E., a faience Eye of Horus amulet from the Hellenistic period, and a hoard of copper alloy coins from the reign of Antiochus III (223–187 B.C.E.; shown here). The coins had been hidden in a pit under the floor of a building, which had been suddenly abandoned in the second century B.C.E.
