TRASH HEAPS at Oxyrhynchus yielded about half a million papyri fragments and are also the source of most New Testament papyri with a known provenance. Discarded as garbage by Christians themselves already in antiquity, these biblical manuscripts raise questions about how the early Christians treated their sacred scriptures.
