WATER IN THE DESERT. The major water source for the fortress of ‘Auja el-Foqa and its surroundings was ‘Ain ‘Auja (the spring of ‘Auja), which fills the Wadi ‘Auja. Today, a modern water channel (seen here) brings water from the spring to the village of Ras ‘Ain el-‘Auja and continues east to the Jordan River. It carries gushing water until late August.
