SILVER SHEKEL. Minted in Jerusalem, this silver shekel coin from the First Jewish Revolt against Rome dates to 68–69 C.E. This side shows a decorated cup and says, “Shekel of Israel” and “Y(ear) 3” in the Old Hebrew script. With a diameter of nearly an inch, this shekel weighs about half an ounce.
