CHURCH SCHEMATICS. The Church of the Glorious Martyr has elements common to Byzantine basilical churches, including a courtyard (atrium), forecourt (narthex), and sanctuary divided into a central nave and two side aisles with a raised altar platform (bema) at its front. The crypt, below the bema, was connected to the main sanctuary by two staircases. A baptistry and side chapel with well-preserved mosaics were later added.
