THE NORTHEAST TEMPLE is one of three Canaanite temples known from Tel Lachish. Though small, it was apparently inspired by monumental Tower Temples, characterized by a symmetrical plan, with two pillars at the entrance (A), a pair of towers in the front (only the west tower is preserved; B and C), and a centrally located long hall (D) ending with a holy of holies (H). The side rooms (E, F, and G) are typical of small Canaanite shrines and were used for storage.
