MOABITE STONE. Discovered at the site of Dhiban (ancient Dibon), Jordan, in 1868, the Moabite Stone records the military victory of the Moabite king Mesha over the Israelites. Another version of this account appears in the Bible (2 Kings 3). The inscription is written in Moabite script and dates to the ninth century B.C.E. One of the most remarkable discoveries of the 19th century, it is on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
