ALPHABET SOUP. In the 1870s, Moabite-looking inscriptions and figurines surfaced on the antiquities market and were later deemed forgeries. These ceramic vessels display a pseudo-Moabite script that blends authentic Moabite script, as preserved on the Moabite Stone, with much later Nabatean and South Arabian scripts and also invented letter forms.
